|Lawyer||Richard Corley, Catherine Lyons|
7:30 - 8:00 am - Networking & Breakfast
8:00 - 9:30 am - Program
Goodmans LLP invites you to join The Honourable Glen Murray, provincial Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, for an open and interactive discussion, moderated by our partners, Richard Corley and Catherine Lyons, of the opportunities and challenges for businesses and investors in the low carbon economy.
Program Update: The Ontario Government has just released its new Climate Change Action Plan. For a summary of the Plan, see our Goodmans Update. The Minister’s remarks will now reflect and address the framework set out in the Plan.
Meeting Canada’s emissions reduction commitments will require a rapid transition to a low carbon, high-productivity economy. Ontario businesses are well positioned to expand their prominence in cleantech development and finance with the TSX and the TSX Venture Exchange providing unparalleled access to capital. However, the success of this transition will depend substantially on the effectiveness of the enabling government policies. Minister Murray will summarize the Ontario government’s vision and strategies for enabling the transition, including:
- The use of carbon pricing as means to incent innovation
- The use of innovative financial instruments to finance investments and infrastructure
- The development of green infrastructure
- Economic incentives for emission-reducing investments, such as EVs, charging infrastructure and retrofits
- Changes to building codes and other standards
