Litigation Law Clerk (Contract Position)

We are currently seeking a Litigation Law Clerk to join our team on a contract basis to cover a maternity leave for approximately 13 months.

Required Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Graduate of a college law clerk diploma program with a minimum 3 to 5 years litigation experience specifically related to litigation support processes and software including CT Summation, Relativity and other leading electronic document management systems
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Rules of Civil Practice and other applicable rules and legislation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with the ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision where required
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive and fast-paced environment

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the firm’s Litigation Support Project Manager, will provide daily assistance and file support to the Litigation Practice Group, with regular use of existing litigation technology (Summation iBlaze and Relativity) as well as other electronic document management software
  • Creation and management of complex databases for discoveries, trial, arbitration and hearings
  • Assistance with loading incoming data and images into litigation databases, as required
  • Generating schedules for affidavits of documents
  • Document review and subjective coding
  • Creating load file and/or briefcases for electronic exchange
  • Liaising with third party service providers for scanning and processing documents
  • Assisting with troubleshooting and resolution of technological issues related to electronic document management and processes
  • Assisting with basic training and instruction on litigation support tools and databases for department members, when required
  • Drafting and preparing pleadings, motion materials, transcript summaries, undertakings and refusals lists and answers to undertakings, court orders, bills of cost, pre-trial and trial materials, document briefs, appeal books, attendances on examinations for discovery and other hearings with lawyers
  • Liaising with clients as required
  • Completing daily billing time records in an accurate and timely manner
  • Observing strict confidentiality standards
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned
