Max Laskin is an associate in the Municipal and Land Use Planning Group at Goodmans. His practice focuses on land development, heritage and environmental issues, as well as other municipal approvals. Max regularly appears before municipal councils, the Committee of Adjustment and the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal. He has also appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
Max has acted for real estate development firms, private companies, public agencies, and individuals on official plan amendment, zoning by-law amendment, plan of subdivision, site plan, minor variance, and consent applications and appeals. He has worked on a number of intensification projects in the City of Toronto, including in King-Spadina, Leslieville and Scarborough Centre, as well as greenfield development in the City of Vaughan and the Town of Richmond Hill. His retail work includes the ongoing development of the Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga.
Max has written on a number of municipal law issues including inclusionary zoning and the amendments to the Planning Act that gave rise to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.
While attending law school at the University of Toronto, Max was awarded the Rocco Marcello Prize. During his studies, he volunteered as a Case Worker at Downtown Legal Services and served as an Associate Editor with the Journal of International Law and International Relations. Prior to attending law school, Max worked as a Project Advisor for an NGO focused on rural community development and infrastructure projects.
