Ask Lots Of Questions
What are you looking for in a law firm? What are your long term goals? How will working with us help you to achieve them? What can you expect from our student program in terms of experience, responsibilities and workload? Do senior lawyers take an active role with students? What kinds of law do we practice? What are our areas of expertise? Will you enjoy working at Goodmans?
Our student program is an integral part of Goodmans. Articling and summer students form the foundation for the future of our practice. That's why members of our Executive Committee and so many of our lawyers are actively involved in all aspects of student life at the firm, not just during interview week. You'll get to know them and they'll get to know you.
Our Students are Seen and Heard
It's important to us to select students who not only display a solid grasp of the law, but are adept at translating legal concepts into practice – outstanding problem solvers who are comfortable dealing with clients. One thing that sets us apart from many other law firms is the way we involve students and junior lawyers in substantive work directly with clients. You will attend meetings and be assigned significant responsibilities.
We believe a hands-on learning experience is vital to the process and provides you with a clear understanding of what our practice is all about. We expect students to contribute ideas and solutions to a wide array of complex legal situations. And we listen.
Life After Law School
Balance is important to us, and we all have interests outside the firm. We know you need time to pursue your own activities and we encourage that. We believe a wide range of experiences creates a more stimulating workplace and ultimately makes us better lawyers and happier people.
We also know that a collegial atmosphere around the firm is good for everyone's sense of well-being. You'll have the chance to participate with our lawyers and staff on our sports teams and in our extensive charitable and community work. At Goodmans, the projects are challenging, but the environment is friendly and informal. To learn more about the Goodmans' student experience, visit GoodmansClips on YouTube.
