Goodmans Named as Winner for Transnational Litigation of the Year and for Global Dispute of the Year at the American Global Legal Awards 2017
Goodmans was recognized in the category of Transnational Litigation and also for Global Dispute of the Year for our work on the Nortel insolvency file at the American Lawyer Global Legal Awards 2017. These awards were given to Goodmans and other firms representing key parties in the Nortel transnational litigation.
Goodmans represents the Court-appointed Monitor, Ernst & Young Inc. in Nortel’s cross-border insolvency proceedings. Goodmans' role has included assisting in the divestiture and winding-down of Nortel’s businesses, litigating on behalf of the Canadian estate the proper allocation of $7.3 billion of sale proceeds generated from the sale of Nortel’s lines of businesses and intellectual property, dealing with unique employee and pension issues in respect of thousands of former employees and negotiating an omnibus global settlement leading to the development and implementation of a plan of compromise and arrangement and ultimately distributions to creditors.
