David Lederman is a partner in the Litigation Group at Goodmans. His practice focuses on litigation and arbitration disputes, including intellectual property and commercial law matters. David has substantial trial experience in shareholder battles, director and officer liability, technology disputes, defamation, white collar crime, and trademarks and copyright.
David appears before the trial and appellate levels of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Court of Canada. He has also appeared before a number of administrative tribunals, including tribunals such as the Ontario Energy Board and Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario.
David is experienced in domestic and international arbitrations and recently acted as lead counsel in proceedings brought before the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
David is a member of the ICC Canada Committee.
He has served as an arbitrator commenced before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution Canada and is available to serve as an arbitrator. David has spoken at International Centre for Dispute Resolution Canada and Ontario Bar Association events on arbitration issues.
David assisted the Honourable Bob Rae in his review of the bombing of Air India Flight 182 and in preparing his report entitled Lessons to be Learned which led to a Commission of Inquiry into the investigation of that event.
David regularly explores new developments in the law. David spoke at a Law Society of Ontario program where he addressed the litigation risks associated with “crowdfunding”.
David was recognized as one of Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 in 2012 and in Lexpert’s 2013 Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Litigation Lawyers in Canada as a Litigation Lawyer to Watch. He was also included as one of the Best Lawyers in Canada in the areas of commercial litigation and intellectual property law in 2019.
