Jonathan Feldman is a partner at Goodmans, where he heads one of the firm’s business law groups. His practice focuses on corporate and securities law with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. Jonathan has extensive experience acting for buyers and sellers in a wide range of industries for private and public companies.
Jonathan has been involved in a number of contested shareholder matters, including proxy contests representing both dissident shareholders and boards of directors. He is also often asked to participate in litigation matters where strategic advice is sought and knowledge of corporate and securities law is required.
Before joining Goodmans in 2004, Jonathan was an associate in the M&A Group of White & Case LLP in New York, where he represented clients in a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions.
Jonathan has been a frequent author and lecturer on topics including recent developments in the Canadian M&A market, the evolving role of shareholder rights plans and the rise of shareholder activism in Canada. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto Law School where he has taught the course “The Art of the Deal”.
Jonathan has been recognized as a leading lawyer by The Best Lawyers in Canada (M&A), The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory (M&A and corporate/securities) and Lexpert® Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada (corporate/securities). Jonathan was honoured in 2011 as one of Lexpert’s "Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40".
Jonathan is an active member of the community. The University of Toronto awarded Jonathan its Arbor Award for outstanding voluntary service and in 2017, Jonathan was elected President of The University of Toronto Law School Alumni Association. As a co-founder of the Barrie to Baycrest 100km annual bike ride, Jonathan has been instrumental in helping raise over $10 million for the Baycrest hospital in Toronto.
