Excerpt from "Canada: Construction Industry Overview":
The construction industry is one of Canada’s largest sectors. According to Statistics Canada, it represents approximately 6.5% of the Canadian GDP ($123.67 billion in 2014) (Statistics Canada, “Gross Domestic Product at Basic Prices, Construction and Manufacturing Industries”) and employs approximately 7.6% of the Canadian workforce (1.37 million people in 2015) (Statistics Canada, “Employment by Industry”).
As a result of growth in major cities such as Toronto and Vancouver, and as a result of large investment in infrastructure by various levels of government, the construction industry has experienced substantial growth over the last decade.
