Goodmans Awarded the Americas Energy Tax Deal of the Year at International Tax Review's Americas Tax Awards 2018
Goodmans was awarded the Americas Energy Tax Deal of the Year at the 13th annual Americas Tax Awards hosted by the International Tax Review (ITR) in New York City on September 13, 2018. The award recognized the firm's work as well as other firms representing key parties on the merger of Enbridge and Spectra Energy.
Goodmans represented Spectra Energy Corp in Canada in its combination with Enbridge Inc. in a stock-for-stock transaction, creating North America’s largest energy infrastructure company with an enterprise value of approximately $165 billion. The transaction valued Spectra Energy’s common stock at approximately $37 billion and is the largest foreign acquisition ever completed by a Canadian company. The transaction combined Enbridge's liquid-weighted midstream assets located primarily in western Canada and the US Midwest with Spectra's network of primarily gas-related midstream assets in the US North, Gulf Coast and Midwest and the Canadian province of British Columbia.
Goodmans was shortlisted in seven other award categories: Americas Consumer Products Tax Deal of the Year, Americas Financial Services Tax Deal of the Year, Americas Joint Venture Tax Deal of the Year, Americas M&A Tax Deal of the Year, Americas Private Equity Tax Deal of the Year, Americas Real Estate Tax Deal of the Year and Americas Tax Restructuring Deal of the Year.
The Americas Tax Awards recognize the most innovative tax and transfer pricing advice and the leading in-house teams, firms and individuals in North, South and Central America.
