Lauren Butti is a partner in the Litigation Group and a member of the Professional Standards Committee at Goodmans. Lauren’s practice focuses on commercial litigation matters, including in the areas of employment, energy, and the environment.
She advises both corporate and individual clients in employment and compensation matters, including wrongful dismissal and severance arrangements, as well as occupational health and safety and human rights issues. Lauren has assisted clients in addressing and defending claims of defamation and libel, including those arising within the context of the termination of employment.
Lauren also acts as counsel to clients involved in complex contractual disputes in the oil and gas industry, electricity sector and environmental remediation claims. She has experience with the quantification of large and complicated damages claims, acting in a number of cases focused on the assessment of damages.
Lauren has both trial and appellate experience and has appeared in all levels of civil court in Ontario, as well as in various arbitration proceedings and in proceedings before administrative bodies.
Lauren is actively involved in the firm’s Continuing Legal Education programs and has authored a number of client updates, particularly on the subject of employment matters. Lauren is also integrally involved in the student program at the firm, acting as a mentor to both summer and articling students. Lauren serves on the board of a non-profit organization focusing on the development and support of pregnant teenagers, young parents and their children.
