McEwan Enterprises Inc. Restructuring
Goodmans LLP acted as counsel to McEwan Enterprises Inc. ("MEI" or the "Company") in connection with the successful restructuring of the Company’s lease obligations and its proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (the “CCAA”).
The arrangements reached by MEI and its landlords resulted in the Company restructuring its business on a consensual basis with its landlords and exiting the CCAA proceedings with a right-sized, sustainable business going forward.
MEI operates a high-end, full-service restaurant, catering, gourmet grocery and events company based in the Greater Toronto Area (the “McEwan Business”). The Company had been experiencing financial challenges for an extended period of time as a result of certain unprofitable and operationally expensive locations. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the Company’s financial challenges.
