Julie Rosenthal will be a panellist in the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) webinar: The Supreme Court’s “Making Available” Decision: Questions Answered, Questions Raised.
The IPIC webinar on the Supreme Court of Canada's recently released decision on the scope of protection provided under the Copyright Act for works made available to the public through digital on-demand transmissions like peer-to-peer networks, streaming services, and music downloads. In Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada v. Entertainment Software Association, 2022 SCC 30, the "making available" right was created in order to give copyright owners some control over how their works were distributed on the Internet and to combat digital piracy.
The panel will discuss this significant decision, which clarifies what the right to make works available means for copyright holders in Canada. The panel will also examine the uncertainty created by the decision.
