Amazon Prime Day Sees Record Sales
Amazon held its annual Prime Day sale July 16th and 17th and saw a record breaking $14.2 billion dollars of estimated sales across the two days. Now in its 9th year, the sale features a variety of discounts exclusively offered to Amazon Prime members. The e-commerce site saw an 11% increase in consumer spending from last year’s $12.7 billion. $7.2 billion was reportedly spent within the first 24 hours of the event with $7 billion being spent on day two.
A report by Numerator estimates that 93,513 orders were placed for 188,000 items across 35,588 households. According to Adobe Analytics, electronics, furniture, and ‘back-to-school’ apparel accounted for almost half of the sales. Adobe’s report projects a total consumer spending of $84.4 billion for Amazon this July, an 8.2% increase from 2023.
In an official release, the CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores Doug Herrington commented, “Prime Day 2024 was a huge success thanks to the millions of Prime members globally who turned to Amazon for fantastic deals, and our much-appreciated employees, delivery partners, and sellers around the world who helped bring the event to life for customers”. While the release did not specify or confirm any sales estimates, they did acknowledge that it was a record-breaking day for the company.
