Toronto-Based Hypercare Selected to Participate in New AWS Healthcare Accelerator

The Amazon Web Services (“AWS”) Accelerator: Global Cohort for Workforce, a technical, business, and mentorship program was introduced in 2023 to combat global healthcare shortages. AWS selects healthcare startups from around the world that offer solutions to industry needs like retention, deployment, and training. The Accelerator program is a four-week technical, business, and mentorship program aimed to scale the selected businesses, offering innovative cloud technologies.
The Toronto-based healthcare startup, Hypercare, was among the first 23 startups selected and the sole Canadian company. Hypercare was founded in 2016 by Albert Tai, the company’s current CEO, and has grown to provide a mobile, secure, comprehensive digital healthcare collaboration suite that connects the right providers at the right time to allow for critical communications and sensitive patient information sharing.
Hypercare’s acceptance into the Accelerator program has sparked a new sense of excitement and possibility within its leadership team. The company has announced its plans to use this opportunity to expand operations into the United Kingdom and European Union, “Hypercare is thrilled to announce its expansion into Europe, where we will support healthcare providers in the region with a better system than pagers and paper on-call schedules,” said Dr. Joseph Choi, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer at Hypercare. “The company's mission is to provide healthcare providers with tools and solutions that enable them to provide the highest quality of care to patients.”
AWS is also excited about the potential impact of the accelerator program. Dr. Rowland Illing, Chief Medical Officer and Director of International Public Sector Health at AWS, recognizes that healthcare solutions are needed “urgently and globally”. Dr. Illing stated, “We know that advancing cloud- and technology-enabled approaches can alleviate some of the burden, and we’re proud to be convening standout startups and healthcare leaders in this first-ever global Accelerator to do that.”
