Venturing out of the COVE: Nova Scotia Tech Hub Announces Transatlantic Partnership
Founded in 2018, COVE is a collaborative facility for applied innovation in marine technology. COVE describes itself as an expanding community of ocean tech companies, and private and public partners who are working together to sustainably grow Canada’s ocean economy. COVE members have access to shared equipment and infrastructure, and are given opportunities to engage in formal and informal networking.
The recently announced transatlantic memorandum of understanding – which joins Canada’s COVE, Germany’s Subsea Monitoring Network (SMN), and Norway’s GCE Ocean Technology (GCE OT) and Ocean Innovation Norwegian Catapult Centre (OINCC) – aims to propel commercial innovation and growth in the ocean tech sector through the sharing of ideas, facilities, and infrastructure.
The partnership will give COVE and its member businesses access to new markets and resources. “COVE will now be able to access worldwide supply chains, research and development, complementary infrastructure and technological advancements to propel Nova Scotia and Canada’s ocean technology sector on a global stage” said Melanie Nadeau, CEO of COVE.
More broadly, the marine technology organizations hope the partnership will help ensure the sustainable use of ocean resources.
