Overview
Andrew Wiseman is a partner in the Real Estate Group at Goodmans, and was until recently a co-section head of the group for more than 15 years. He focuses on commercial real estate, property development law, leasing, construction contracts financings (including structured financings), student housing, seniors housing and sale lease back transactions. Andrew joined Goodmans in 1990 and became a partner in 1996.
Andrew is recognized as a leading lawyer by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in the areas of property leasing and property development, Best Lawyers in Canada in the areas of banking and finance law and real estate law, Chambers Canada in the area of real estate: Ontario, The Legal 500 Canada in the area of real estate, Lexology Index: Real Estate and Euromoney’s Guide to the World’s Leading Real Estate Lawyers. Andrew's representative work includes acting for:
Commercial Real Estate
- Andrew has extensive experience in commercial real estate, acting primarily for owners, developers, joint ventures, partnerships, real estate investment trusts and pension funds in connection with the acquisition, development, financing and disposition of real estate matters. He also has expertise in connection with the acquisition, divestiture and financing of real estate portfolios.
Real Estate Finance
- Andrew has extensive experience in complex real estate financing transactions, acting for borrowers, lenders, underwriters and issuers. He has been co-lead counsel in various structured financing transactions, including commercial mortgage-back securities transactions. Andrew also has substantial expertise in leasehold financing transactions.
Construction Law
- Andrew has acted for owners on a number of design-build, fixed price, guaranteed maximum price and construction management contracts.
Leasing
- Andrew acts for landlords and tenants on various leasing matters, including, single tenant building leases, build-to-suit leases, ground leases, office leases and retail leases.
