As reported by Law 360, Apple, Pandora, and Google have been sued by Post Media Systems LLC for patent infringement regarding their respective music streaming services (Apple Music, Google Play, Pandora radio).
In the nearly identical suits, Post Media alleges that Apple, Pandora, and Google violated four patents related to sharing media over networks owned by Post Media. The inventor of the four patents, Alan Bartholomew, is a software developer who also owns SoniClear, a digital recording and automated audio-transcription company.
Post Media claims the three tech companies have “engaged in such actions with specific intent to cause infringement or with willful blindness to the resulting infringement” as they are all aware of the patents covering the online music sharing technology.
It was noted in the claims that Bartholomew is nearing retirement and wishes to secure his family’s financial future without incurring the risk of a countersuit from Google, Apple, or Pandora and that is why he approached Post Media, the assignee of his patents. Post Media has previously filed suit against Spotify for patent infringement.
