It appears that Ford is expanding its range of vehicles beyond just automobiles. Ford has recently patented a drone that can be deployed from a car’s trunk.
According to this patent, a driver of a Ford vehicle would be able to deploy a quadcopter drone from their trunk to perform security and emergency aid functions. The drone would be customizable and programmable via an on-board computer and could be programmed to follow a driving vehicle or to signal a vehicle’s location to emergency services.
Ford seems to be expanding upon what Land Rover did with Project Hero in 2017 (in which a land Rover was equipped with the ability to launch and land a search and rescue drone while the vehicle was in motion) and Porsche’s Mission E Cross Turismo concept car.
