LeBron: The Only King James Who Can Travel by Court or Sea
As reported by ClutchPoints, LeBron James recently filed a lawsuit aiming to prevent Carnival Cruise Line from naming one of its ships “King James”. The LA Lakers forward uses the “King James” moniker on social media but he does not have a trademark for it.
The US Patent and Trademark Office approved Carnival's trademark for publication in July. James’s attorneys opposed Carnival’s application on two grounds. First, they argued that the registration could cause some people to think that the cruise ship was associated with James and, second, that the trademark consists of a name identifying a living person, despite “King” not being his legal name.
Carnival is owned by Micky Arison, who owns James’s former team, the Miami Heat. For Arison, going up against LeBron in court must have seemed like a worse fate than facing him on the court because Carnival withdrew its trademark application just eight days after James filed his opposition.

King is the actual legal last name of this author and not a nickname or social media handle. She is strongly considering trademarking her name before LeBron James does.
