Bell Canada has launched a corporate venture capital arm, Bell Ventures, joining a number of Canadian companies that are committed to supporting technology startups. Bell Ventures will be comprised of a series of investments that Bell has made in recent years, as well as undertaking new investments in companies ranging from early-stage startups, to established companies with millions of dollars in revenues.
The group will be led by Bell’s treasurer and senior vice-president of corporate strategy, Curtis Millen, along with three colleagues. Investments will be made in companies with advanced technology which will help Bell differentiate its 5G and fibre networks. The unit will focus on companies specializing in network security, the internet of things, robotics, telematics, clean technology, augmented and virtual reality and the metaverse.
Bell’s press release explained that the companies that Bell Ventures invests in benefit from Bell’s management and technological expertise and are able to leverage Bell’s network assets and strategic relationships to build use cases and accelerate market adoption.
