Horizon Blockchain Games (Horizon) is a Toronto-based startup at the forefront of developing the Web3 gaming world. Founded in 2017, Horizon aims to make the complex ecosystem of cryptocurrency, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and virtual real estate accessible to everyday gamers.
Betakit reports that Horizon recently closed its Series A financing round, having raised USD$40 million from a broad group of investors led by Brevan Howard Digital and Morgan Creek Digital. The investor group also included the likes of Shopify CEO Tobias (Tobi) Lutke and more traditional gaming companies like Ubisoft Entertainment, among others.
Horizon was previously working off of $13.3 million in seed financing. This new injection of capital is set to help the company grow Sequence, its all-in-one developer platform and smart wallet for building Web3 games and applications. Horizon hopes to continue differentiating itself from the rest of the Web3 gaming market by focusing on user experience rather than, as Horizon describes its competition, being “financial tools masquerading as a game.”
