Goodmans Presents: Managing the "What Now?" - Professionalism Dilemmas for In-House Counsel

Details

In-house counsel are often faced with complex problems and asked to answer “What now?!”

Compounding the complexity of answering this challenging question are the lawyer’s own professional obligations and ethics.

What happens when corporate policies are not aligned with your professional responsibilities or your moral compass is pointing in the opposite direction of where your organization wants you to go?

This interactive program will explore three situations that present ethical dilemmas:

  • Sexual harassment
    • Role of the in-house lawyer
    • Who’s your client
    • When the perpetrator is your boss
  • Protecting privilege and confidentiality when crossing borders (both for you and your executives)

  • Whistleblowing
    • Balancing the duty of confidentiality with obligations to report
    • Assessing intent and harm

Our panel will discuss the factors to consider when approaching these types of issues. You will also have a chance to share with and learn from your fellow in-house counsel colleagues, with the goal of being better prepared to address these ethical dilemmas.
