Bring it to the Runway: New Nintendo Patent Improves Clothing Textures

As reported by Nintendo Life, Nintendo has filed a patent application for a process called “deformation”, which stops clothing textures from blending into in-game character models. The process prevents in-game clothing from combining or clipping through characters when the characters perform an action in the game. 

Previously, developers would have created an entirely new character model in order for the character to wear a new outfit. However, with this technology, Nintendo will eliminate the need for new character models. Rather, through deformation, new clothing and accessories will become an extra layer to fit on top of existing character models, which makes designing games easier for developers.
