Electronic Arts (“EA”) continues to break down barriers, adding four more patents to its accessibility Patent Pledge.
In 2021, EA introduced a Patent Pledge with the aim of fostering a more accessible and inclusive gaming environment. Through their pledge, EA will not enforce a specific list of patents against an infringing party. All of the listed patents are focused on enhancing accessibility in video games, particularly for players with vision, speaking or cognitive conditions.
EA has continually added patents to their pledge since 2021. The four new patents, which were added in December 2023, bring EA’s total number of patents under its accessibility pledge to 15. The new patents added include:
- Automated Player Control Takeover in a Video Game – auto-detects when users stop interacting in a game and converts their player-controlled character into a personalized system-driven character.
- Adaptive Gaming Tutorial System – offers personalized guidance for executing in-game commands, which are designed to match each user’s skill level and preferred play style.
- Route Navigation System within a Game Application Environment – creates navigational routes and provides visual guidance to assist users in navigating intricate game environments.
- Animated and Personalized Coach for Video Games – offers users an individualized, animated coach to enhance their in-game performance.
