Arkells are a Canadian rock band formed in 2006. The band originally performed as “Charlemagne” but changed its name to Arkells when another band of the same name threatened to sue them. The band is named after Arkell Street in the Westdale neighborhood of Hamilton, near McMaster University, where they lived and practised their music.
According to the Arkells’ tweet on December 1, 2021, they received a message from someone named Ron Kells, as in “R.Kells”, who argued that the band’s name is too similar to theirs. The message reads, “My name is Ron Kells and we all have a problem with the name of your band and the rights to it please get a hold of me before the half time show goes on, seriously.”
So far, it is not clear if Ron Kells is a real person or if the messages are to be taken seriously.
