As a partner at Goodmans, David Lederman’s focus is on litigation and arbitration disputes including intellectual property and commercial law matters. David has substantial experience in shareholder disputes, proxy battles, director and officer liability, professional negligence, defamation, white collar crime, patents, trademarks and copyright.
David appears before both the trial and appellate levels of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Court of Canada. He has also appeared before a number of administrative tribunals including tribunals such as the Ontario Energy Board and Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario.
David is experienced in domestic and international arbitrations and recently acted as lead counsel in proceedings brought before the ICC International Court of Arbitration. He is also a member of the ICC Canada Committee.
He is on the panel of arbitrators of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution Canada and is available to serve as an arbitrator if requested. David has spoken at ICDR and Ontario Bar Association events on arbitration issues.
David assisted the Honourable Bob Rae in his review of the bombing of Air India Flight 182 and in the preparation of his report entitled Lessons to be Learned which led to a Commission of Inquiry into the investigation of that event.
He is always exploring new developments in the law. In 2015, David spoke at a Law Society of Ontario program where he addressed the litigation risks associated with “crowdfunding”.
David was recognized as one of Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 in 2012 and in Lexpert’s 2013 Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Litigation Lawyers in Canada as a “Litigation Lawyer to Watch”. He was also included as one of the “Best Lawyers in Canada” in the areas of commercial litigation and intellectual property law for 2015 and 2016.
