Competition, Antitrust and Foreign Investment
Goodmans’ Competition, Antitrust and Foreign Investment Group is known for its ability to work seamlessly, effectively and successfully with our number one-ranked M&A practice – often advising on the largest and most complex deals in Canada.
Our competition lawyers represent some of the highest-profile corporations in Canada, in industries such as the financial sector, manufacturing, real estate, telecommunications, broadcasting, entertainment, publishing, pulp and paper, forestry and mining.
Our competition group has represented the Competition Bureau on several important cases, and cooperates with the Bureau regularly in reviewing and commenting on proposed changes to the Competition Act.
In addition to merger review, we regularly advise clients in contentious matters that raise competition issues relating to the criminal and civil provisions of the Competition Act, including conspiracy, abuse of dominance, resale price maintenance, refusal to deal and deceptive marketing practices.
With a team philosophy grounded in problem-solving, high energy, and attention to client interests, the people in our competition group know how to think quickly to resolve issues with confidence. The people in our competition group also have substantive backgrounds in M&A, and function as a truly integrated team with our M&A group. With a thorough understanding and respect for both their clients’ objectives, and those of regulators, we have a superb ability to resolve issues between the two – all with the goal of successfully closing the deal.
