"The two more-pronounced impacts, obviously, were the drying up of the financial purchaser and the unavailability of debt capital," said Neill May, a partner with the law firm Goodmans in Toronto. "Another trend that affected Canada uniquely was the death of the income trust. That was a viable alternative to a merger and acquisition."
