As reported by Remi Network, DIALOG has filed a patent application for its Hybrid Timber Floor System (“HTFS”) in Canada, the United States, the European Union, Australia and China.
The HTFS is designed to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of high-rise towers. When used in conjunction with other eco-friendly building technologies, such as photovoltaic panels, algae bioreactors, or other renewable energy solutions, high-rise towers may reportedly achieve carbon neutrality.
The HTFS combines cross-laminated timber panels with steel and concrete to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of high-rise buildings. DIALOG says that floor plates usually comprise 70% of the building material used in high-rise towers. By creating an eco-friendly floor plate solution, the environmental footprint of high-rise buildings can be reduced.
The HFTS is a component of the zero-carbon hybrid timber supertall prototype idea designed by DIALOG that was awarded Fast Company’s “2021 World Changing Ideas” in architecture.
Once the patents are issued, the HTFS will need to be approved for safety by local regulators. Pending such approval, DIALOG has reportedly formed a partnership with EllisDon, a global construction firm, to develop the panels for thorough structural testing.
