Overview

David Lederman is a partner in the Dispute Resolution Group at Goodmans. His practice focuses on litigation and arbitration disputes, including commercial law and intellectual property matters. David has substantial trial experience in shareholder battles, fiduciary liability, technology disputes, defamation, white collar crime, alcohol and cannabis litigation. 

David appears before the trial and appellate levels of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Court of Canada. He has also appeared before a number of administrative tribunals, including tribunals such as the Ontario Energy Board and the Licence Appeal Tribunal (AGCO).

David is experienced in domestic and international arbitrations and has acted as lead counsel in proceedings brought before the ICC International Court of Arbitration. He also has served as an arbitrator for the International Centre of Dispute Resolution.

David is recognized as a leading litigator by Best Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory. He is also featured in the 2023 Lexpert Special Edition: Litigation leading lawyers and Lexpert Special Edition: Technology and Health Sciences. In 2012, he was selected as one of Lexpert’s "Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40.”

Professional Involvement

David is a member of the ICC Canada Committee. He has spoken at ICDR and OBA events on arbitration issues.

David assisted the Honourable Bob Rae in his review of the bombing of Air India Flight 182 and in preparing his report entitled Lessons to be Learned which led to a Commission of Inquiry into the investigation of that event.

David regularly explores new developments in the law. David has spoken on the litigation risks associated with “crowdfunding” and the emerging growth of third party litigation funding.
